Our Founding and Senior Minister the Reverend Sallye Taylor is a virtual powerhouse of spiritual scholarship and discipline. She is an educator and our mentor. She is also the 2008 recipient of the Charles Fillmore Award.
Welcome to Soul Food Unity’s Web Site I’m the Reverend Sallye Coe Taylor, founding minister of Soul Food Unity Ministry. I was ordained a Unity Minister in 1979 after serving 15 years as a classroom teacher in Memphis, TN and Chicago, IL. I was born and raised in Memphis, am divorced with one son, four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. I graduated from Tennessee State University in 1962; I have a bachelor’s degree in psychology and education. I also attended graduate school at several universities including Chicago State and St. Paul’s School of Theology here in Kansas City, MO.
As a Unity minister, I have served the following ministries: · 1978-79 Minister of Unity of Jefferson City, Jefferson City, MO during my 2nd year of the Ministerial Education Program (MEP) · 1979-81 Member of the Unity Village Retreat Staff · 1980-83 Pioneered Unity in the Inner City, Kansas City, MO · 1983-87 Chairperson of Biblical Studies for Unity School of Christianity, Unity Village, MO · 1987-90 Senior Minister for Unity of Austin, Austin, TX It was during a sabbatical following the ministry in Austin, TX, that the divine idea for Soul Food Unity was revealed to me!
Soul Food Unity Ministry was accepted as an alternative Unity ministry of the International Association of Unity Churches in 1996. Being an alternative ministry means that we are not a traditional church with a brick and mortar building where a congregation worships. We serve Unity and other New Thought Christian ministers and ministries in alternative ways as a spiritual, educational resource.
Our purpose is to teach and demonstrate the universal principles of Truth that were taught and demonstrated by Jesus Christ. Soul Food Unity Ministry is a link in the chain of the great spiritual education movement which was begun by Jesus Christ.
Our mission and primary focus is to promote Unity’s traditional metaphysical and historical Bible study as a vital part of our spiritual growth process. We accomplish this by providing bible resource and study materials for Meta bible students. Our research and resource materials combine the best of current biblical scholarship and Unity’s Meta Bible interpretation.
Our vision is that through this web site we become a biblical and spiritual prayer and educational center where the Truth Principles in the Bible are interpreted and taught in practical and relevant ways.
In many ways, life is a classroom and we are a teaching ministry that helps each of us to fully realize and demonstrate God’s intended purpose for our lives. In listening and learning, we come to know the truth and the truth sets us free!

The church has always been a major part of my life as I sought to define and establish a personal relationship to, and with, God. My spiritual quest has led to an eclectic background from my family’s Baptist heritage to Methodist, then from Catholicism to Pentecostal — each has given me something positive in building a life of Christian discipleship. As a young child, Unity’s Daily Word and Unity Magazine were among the reading materials in my home, and later Unity became an even greater influence in my life. Working in many capacities (especially teaching) for my church community brought forth gifts that eventually paved the way to a higher education.
I was born in Gary, Texas, but lived in California until 1992 where I earned a bachelor’s degree from UCLA. I entered their school of education to earn my teaching credentials followed by graduate school. I have six children: 3 sons, 3 daughters, 12 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. Teaching and music are my passion!
From California I moved to Lee’s Summit, Missouri, joined Unity in 1994, then entered Unity’s ministerial program in 2003. I was licensed and ordained in 2005. I have had the privilege to serve Unity communities in Missouri and in Kansas as a speaker and musician.
My greatest delight was the invitation from Sallye to come aboard as co-minister for Soul Food Unity Ministries, helping to bring Light to the scriptures and promote Bible literacy.
I tell my story to encourage others, because I know that a renewed mind transforms a life of despair. I teach my God-given Truth.

I met Bill Wear Jr. in 1985, during his first year at Unity’s Ministerial School. Since 1986, Bill & I have become good friends and the board and I have invited him to become part of Soul Food Unity Ministry. After he graduated from Unity School of Christianity, Bill & his wife Sheila started an interdenominational outreach ministry in Springfield Missouri. That ministry, Recovery Fellowship Ministries, continues to help hundreds of families and children each year with programs and services in the areas of addiction intervention and recovery, social life skills development & relationship improvement.
In addition to being a minister, Bill is an attorney and mediator, marriage & family therapist, a university professor, an author, a sports psychologist, an addiction interventionist, a blues musician and recording artist & a yoga and meditation instructor. Bill is a former PGA member and Senior Tour Player and teaches golf in Springfield, MO and on the Kona Coast of the Big Island. He is also a national & international speaker and has been a presenter at hundreds of venues including the National Wellness Conference, The World Conference on Logo Therapy, the American Holistic Nurses Association Conference, the American Holistic Medical Association Conference, the International Conference of Family & Conciliation Courts, the American Assoc. of Marriage & Family Therapists, the Pacific Social Science Institute and the 2009 World Congress of the International New Thought Alliance.
Bill’s current focus is on the THE RELATIONSHIP PROJECT. He believes that by helping adults become more successful in their relationships with each other, they will model better relationship behaviors for their children to witness and emulate. Bill’s experiences as a divorce attorney, marriage & family therapist and minister have led him to conclude that most adults have not learned how to effectively communicate especially when dealing with conflict. Bill has developed a program that assists adults in leaning how to consistently & permanently improve their relationship skills and create marriages that accelerate spiritual & -psychological growth instead of impeding it.
